Suspect accused of obtaining property by deception in Cayman Islands

🚨 Woman arrested for alleged rental scam

A 42-year-old woman from West Bay, Cayman Islands, was recently arrested on suspicion of running a rental scam. The police received a report about an ad placed on a local website for a residential property for rent in the Prospect area of George Town. The complainant alleged that they had made payments to secure the property, but later found out that the property had been relisted for rent on the same website, leading them to believe they had been scammed. 🏠

Officers from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) suspect there may be more victims of this alleged scam and are urging them to come forward. In light of this incident, the police are advising potential renters to verify the legitimacy of rental advertisements before exchanging any money. This can be done by viewing the property, meeting the owner or agent, and verifying their identities through traceable means. 🕵️‍♂️

Anyone with information about this or other financial scams is encouraged to contact the George Town Police Station or submit anonymous tips to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line or caymancrimestoppers.com. 📞
