👮‍♀️ Woman arrested after violent confrontation with police

A woman accused of assaulting police and government officials was arrested after a violent confrontation on Wednesday. The woman, who was accused of illegal trading at a beach, reportedly attacked officers with a knife and then fled the scene. When police located her at a nearby establishment, she continued to act aggressively and threatened officers with bladed weapons. Despite initially being arrested, the woman managed to escape custody and fled towards the shoreline, armed with a knife and a pair of scissors.🔪

After a standoff lasting several hours, police negotiators and a local pastor attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the woman remained uncooperative and continued to threaten officers and herself. As it became clear that she would not willingly return to shore, the decision was made to approach her directly. Due to her being armed, officers carrying specialist shotguns loaded with non-lethal beanbag rounds entered the ocean to subdue her. Despite being hit with the rounds, the woman continued to resist but was eventually restrained and taken into custody. She received medical treatment for minor injuries, while multiple officers were also injured during the incident. One officer remains in hospital in stable condition.🚑

The incident is currently under investigation, and the Office of the Ombudsman has been notified for an independent review. Chief Superintendent Brad Ebanks thanked all those involved in the incident, including the officers whose bravery resulted in the safe arrest of the woman and the community members who assisted at the scene.
