šŸ”Ø Wayne Bellafonte convicted for 2021 double homicide

Wayne Alphanso Bellafonte Jr, aged 33, was convicted on Monday for the murders of Mark Andre Ebanks (36) and Eldon Charles Walton (55) which occurred outside the Globe Bar on Martin Drive, George Town more than three years ago. In addition to the double murder, Bellafonte was also found guilty of the attempted murder of a third man and possession of an unlicensed firearm. This was Bellafonte's second trial for these charges, as the first was declared a mistrial due to jury members being shown inadmissible evidence in error. šŸš”

The prosecution, led by Scott Wainwright, built their case against Bellafonte on four key elements, including the presence of his DNA inside one of the vehicles used by the killers. Another vehicle used in the crime was registered to Bellafonte's mother. Despite Bellafonte's claim that he was purchasing marijuana in West Bay while another man was using his car, the prosecution presented cellphone data that matched the movements of both vehicles. The shooting is believed to have been gang-related. šŸ“±

After the jury's unanimous verdict, Bellafonte was remanded back into custody until November, when he is expected to be sentenced. As he has been convicted of a double murder, he is facing a life sentence. The final decision on the length of the life tariff before Bellafonte can be considered for parole will be made by Justice Cheryll Richards after hearing submissions from both the crown and defence. āš–ļø
