đ¨ Two men apprehended in Anti-Corruption Commission probe
Suspects charged with fraud, obtaining property by deception, and money laundering
Two individuals, Douglas Anthony Smith (48) of North Sound Estates and Shaun Michael Abshire Scott (24) of George Town, have been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigators. Each man is facing three charges: conspiracy to commit fraud on the government, obtaining property by deception, and being involved in a money laundering arrangement. These charges are in line with the Anti-Corruption Act, the Penal Code, and the Proceeds of Crime Act respectively.đ
The arrests followed a "complex and protracted investigation" and are not linked to the two other ACC cases disclosed earlier this summer. Both Smith and Scott are scheduled to appear in court at 10:00am on Tuesday, 27 August 2024. The ACC has stated that no additional details will be released at this time.âī¸
