Department of Environmental Health announces additional clean-up exercise to handle increased waste

🗑️ Special bulk waste collection scheduled for holiday season

The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is planning a special clean-up exercise over the next two weeks to handle the increase in bulk waste during the holiday season. This additional collection comes as a supplement to the annual seasonal clean-up that was moved to May this year in anticipation of the hurricane season. The initiative is aimed at helping residents manage their waste more efficiently during this period. 🎄

Residents are advised to prepare and separate their items before the collection days assigned to their areas. Items such as household appliances, furniture, and other large items that cannot be handled by the weekly DEH collection crews should be placed by the roadside for easy access. Metals and vegetation should be separated from other bulk items. However, residents are responsible for transporting construction and demolition debris, hazardous material, electronics, and tyres to the nearest landfill, as these items will not be collected during the bulk waste removal activity. 🏡

The bulk waste special collection will follow a specific schedule based on different areas. Any bulk waste that is put out after the announced dates will not be collected. The George Town Landfill operates from 7am to 5pm on weekdays and until 1pm on Saturdays. The landfill drop-off facility at the gate will remain accessible to the public and small vehicles 24 hours per day. ⏰
