šŸ‘®ā€ā™‚ļø Senior prison officer arrested for smuggling contraband into prison

A senior prison officer at HMP Northward was arrested on 28 February for smuggling contraband into the facility. The arrest was made during a joint operation by the HM Cayman Islands Prison Service, the Department of Public Safety Communications, and the police. The officer, identified as Derron Watson, a long-serving member of the prison staff, was found carrying ganja into the prison. He has been taken to the Prisoner Detention Centre and remains in custody pending further investigation. šŸšØ

This is not an isolated incident, as at least three officers employed by the prison service have been arrested or charged with smuggling drugs into the jail over the last two years. In 2021, former officer Arnold Geovanny Cabrera Diaz admitted to smuggling more than half a pound of ganja into Northward and was jailed for two years in December 2022. Additionally, Rudolph Rambaran, a 39-year-old Jamaican officer from West Bay, was also charged with smuggling ganja and pleaded guilty in February 2022. šŸ›ļø
