🌳 Scranton Park in Cayman Islands to emulate New York's Central Park

The groundbreaking ceremony for Scranton Park in the George Town Central constituency in the Cayman Islands is set to take place on September 12. The project, championed by the tourism minister, is being touted as the country's answer to New York's Central Park. The park is expected to provide facilities for all, with a particular focus on seniors and families. It will feature senior and youth centres, with potential for expansion should more land become available. 🌳

The full plans, final architect’s design, and rendering for Scranton Park will be unveiled at the groundbreaking ceremony. The tourism minister has urged the public to attend, emphasizing that the park is much more than just a recreational area. The project has already seen an investment of approximately CI$1.2 million, with more funding expected. The park will be easily accessible from the Government Administration Building, offering a green space in the heart of George Town, complete with sporting facilities. 🌿

The vision for the park came from the local community, and it has taken time to acquire the necessary land to secure the future of the existing neighbourhood park and expand it into this multi-million dollar project. The government is keen to expand the green space at the park and could acquire more land when it becomes available around the site. The groundbreaking ceremony will be open to the public and will take place at the site from 5:00pm on Thursday, 12 September. 🏞️
