🌀 Potential tropical cyclone forming near Grand Cayman

A potential Tropical Cyclone 9 is developing just 110 miles south-southwest of Grand Cayman, according to the National Hurricane Center's latest forecast. The weather system is moving north at approximately 6mph and is expected to start affecting the Cayman Islands with heavy rain and strong winds. Currently, the winds are near 30mph with higher gusts, but these are predicted to strengthen as the storm takes shape. The system is forecast to become a hurricane by Wednesday and move away from the Cayman area towards the eastern Gulf of Mexico, where it is expected to intensify rapidly. 🌀

While the Cayman Islands are bracing for severe weather and potential flooding, no official warnings or watches have been issued by the NHC. In anticipation of the storm, the Department of Environmental Health has announced the suspension of garbage collection and closure of the landfill. The Department of Vehicle and Drivers’ Licensing has also suspended vehicle inspections and driver exams. Schools across the islands will remain closed, and Cayman Airways has confirmed that it will waive change fees for flights purchased before 22 September. 🌧️
