A police officer in the Cayman Islands was assaulted during a routine traffic stop in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) reported that the officer had stopped a vehicle on Bodden Town Road and asked the driver for identification and vehicle documents. The driver and a passenger then exited the vehicle and advanced on the officer, prompting him to use his pepper spray. The driver attempted to escape the scene but lost control of his vehicle, which flipped and came to a halt in nearby bushes. The 23-year-old driver, a resident of East End, was arrested on charges of assaulting an officer, providing false details, and careless driving. He was taken to a detention center while the officer was transported to a hospital for assessment and later released. The RCIPS has not confirmed whether the use of pepper spray contributed to the driver's loss of control.🚨
