🚨 OfReg investigates FLOW's 911 service outage

Regulatory authority OfReg has launched an investigation into a recent unscheduled outage of FLOW's fixed-line network, which disrupted calls to 911 emergency services. Although FLOW's mobile lines remained functional during the outage, OfReg expressed deep concern about the incident. Following the outage, OfReg Executive Director ICT, Sonji Myles, met with FLOW representatives to understand the cause and nature of the incident. The regulator has since asked FLOW to submit a detailed report outlining the factors that led to the outage, the steps taken to resolve it, and a comprehensive plan to prevent similar incidents in the future. 📞

OfReg is also scrutinising FLOW's compliance with its licence conditions, particularly regarding the delivery of calls to 911. The regulator stressed the crucial importance of maintaining uninterrupted access to emergency services and is committed to ensuring service providers uphold the highest standards of reliability and responsiveness for public safety. Myles stated that fixed-line networks remain a "critical part" of emergency services infrastructure, and OfReg will ensure they are properly maintained and protected by operators. Officials from the regulator will continue to closely monitor the situation and work with FLOW to implement necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. 🚑
