Government amends planning rules to encourage use of rooftop space in tourism zones

🏨 New regulations allow rooftop amenities in hotels and condos

The government has made changes to the development and planning regulations, allowing hotels and condos in tourism zones to use their rooftops for amenities like swimming pools, restaurants, bars or spas. The amendment was passed in parliament by Planning Minister Jay Ebanks, who believes that the use of rooftops, especially along Seven Mile Beach, can provide appealing views and give developers more space.

The new regulations specify that the rooftop space cannot be used for additional rooms or penthouses, but only for amenities or auxiliary facilities. This change is intended to give developers more flexibility and encourage the preservation of beach space. The amendment was welcomed by Tourism Minister Kenneth Bryan, who believes it will enhance the local tourism product. The proposal was passed unopposed by members of parliament.
