šŸ”« National Gun Amnesty campaign receives more firearms

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) reported that an additional pistol, rifle, and an unspecified amount of ammunition were surrendered over the past weekend as part of the National Gun Amnesty campaign. The weapons were handed in through a trusted third party, bringing the total number of firearms recovered since the amnesty began on July 1st to four. šŸš”

Due to disruptions caused by Hurricane Beryl, the amnesty, which was initially set to end on July 31st, has been extended to August 11th. During this period, members of the public are encouraged to hand in all illegal guns, gun components, and ammunition without fear of prosecution. Chief Superintendent Brad Ebanks expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the campaign and urged the public to continue surrendering illegal weapons to help rid the community of firearms. šŸŒŖļø

There are four methods for surrendering guns, ammunition, and other weapons: drop-off, pick-up, handover via a trusted party, or through Cayman Crime Stoppers. More information on how to hand in firearms can be found on the RCIPS website. šŸ“ž
