👨‍⚖️ Man accused of using Snapchat to groom and assault minor

24-year-old George Martin Slijper is facing charges for allegedly using Snapchat to groom a 13-year-old girl before sexually assaulting her in a hotel bathroom. Prosecutor Sarah Lewis told the jury that Slijper posed as a teenager on the social media platform, befriending the girl and gradually escalating the sexual content of their messages. The girl, believing Slijper to be her peer, agreed to meet him at a hotel where her mother worked when her school was closed for the day. 📱

The meeting escalated from sitting by the pool, to a hot tub, and finally to a bathroom where Slijper is accused of raping the girl. The girl's mother discovered the two by the pool and, after pressing her daughter for details, reported the incident to the police. Slijper was arrested days later, admitting to messaging the girl but denying the sexual assault. He claimed the girl had told him she was 17 and had acted maturely. However, medical evidence contradicted his denial. 🚔

Despite Snapchat's feature of deleting messages after 24 hours, police were able to recover some messages from Slijper's phone. These messages allegedly revealed Slijper's awareness of the girl's age and his efforts to mislead her into sending explicit content and agreeing to meet him. The trial is ongoing. ⚖️
