āš½ļø Jeff Webb's FIFA corruption case sentencing postponed indefinitely

Jeffery Webb's sentencing in the FIFA corruption case has been delayed once again, nearly nine years after his arrest. Webb, the former vice president of FIFA and the president of both the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) and CONCACAF, was arrested alongside 13 other football, marketing, and media executives in Zurich. The US Department of Justice (DoJ) stated that a new sentencing date would not be set until the appeals related to the case are over. Webb was convicted in December 2016 after admitting to various racketeering offences and forfeiting over $6.7M as part of his plea. His sentencing has been adjourned at least 15 times since then. āš–ļø

Webb has spent several years on bail and under house arrest at his Atlanta home, despite being wanted by prosecutors in the Cayman Islands in connection with two other fraud cases. He will not be extradited to the Cayman Islands until the case against him in the United States closes. However, the likelihood of Webb ever going to jail in the US is extremely low due to his plea and alleged cooperation. A recent acquittal of a co-defendant in the FIFA case has called the legality of the prosecution of all those involved in the football scandal in the United States into question. If the DoJ's appeal to reinstate the co-defendant's convictions fails, all of those convicted in this case could also appeal their convictions. šŸ›ļø
