🌍 Honduras imposes visa requirements on British passport holders

In a reciprocal move, the Honduran government has imposed visa requirements for British passport holders. This decision comes in response to the UK's recent announcement that all Honduran citizens will need a visa to enter the country. The British government allowed a four-week transition period, ending on 16 August, during which Hondurans who had booked their travel before the announcement could still enter the UK without a visa. 🌎

The UK's visa requirement was also imposed on citizens of Dominica, Namibia, Timor-Leste, and Vanuatu due to a surge in asylum claims and misuse of the provision for non-visa nationals to visit the UK for a limited period. The new Labour government has shown no indication of changing this policy. In contrast, Honduras had implemented a visa-free entry policy for tourists from 117 countries in June this year, aiming to attract more international visitors and stimulate economic growth through tourism. 🛂

Effective from 15 August, the new Honduran visa requirements apply to nationals of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, holders of British passports from the Special Administrative Regions of the People’s Republic of China (Hong Kong) stating “British nationality”, and holders of British Passports originally from other British territories, including the Cayman Islands. Cayman Airways Ltd, which operates two return flights to La Ceiba per week, has advised passengers to ensure they have all necessary travel documents, including visas, prior to arriving at the airport. 🛫
