๐ŸŒ€ HMCI announces National Week of Readiness in anticipation of active hurricane season

As forecasters predict a busy second half of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, the government has announced a National Week of Readiness from 18 to 25 September. The Hazard Management Cayman Islands (HMCI) leads this initiative, aiming to cultivate a culture of preparedness among residents during the most active period of the storm season. The goal of the National Week of Readiness is to remind residents to take necessary measures to protect themselves, their families, and their properties. ๐ŸŒ€

HMCI Director Danielle Coleman emphasized the possibility of sudden and significant storm activity at this time of year. She urged residents to take practical steps now instead of waiting for an imminent threat. Local supermarkets have partnered with the government, offering special discounts on identified hurricane items during the National Week of Readiness. Government officials also recommended creating a Hurricane Emergency Plan, packing an Emergency Bag, stocking an Emergency Kit, and staying informed through official Government communications. ๐Ÿ“ป

Despite the country being largely spared so far this season, Premier Juliana Oโ€™Connor-Conolly stressed the importance of remaining prepared and vigilant. She encouraged residents to not only ensure their own safety but also extend help to others in need. The storm experts at Colorado State University warned of a robust signal for a tropical cyclone emerging from the western Caribbean in the coming days, emphasizing the need for close monitoring for potential landfall impacts. ๐ŸŒช๏ธ
