🏴‍☠️ Heritage Days scrapped from Pirates Week Festival

Budget and time constraints force changes to traditional Cayman Islands event

🏴‍☠️ Heritage Days scrapped from Pirates Week Festival

The 2023 National Pirates Week Festival in Little Cayman will not include the traditional District Heritage Days this year. A press release about the event cited time and budget constraints as the reason for this decision, which has resulted in a significant change to the festival's format. The theme for this year's event is "Cayman Wildlife", however, it remains unclear how this will be incorporated into the festival's activities. 🦜

Culture Minister Bernie Bush, who is also a former director of the festival, expressed his gratitude towards the Pirates Week Committee and his ministry staff. He highlighted the festival's importance in uniting the community through a variety of activities and events over the past 40 years. Despite the scaled-down nature of this year's event, Bush expressed satisfaction with how the tradition has evolved and persisted over the years. The festival was originally started 46 years ago as a means to attract more visitors during the tourism off-season. 🏴‍☠️
