🏴☠️ Heritage Days scrapped from Pirates Week Festival
Budget and time constraints force changes to traditional Cayman Islands event
The 2023 National Pirates Week Festival in Little Cayman will not include the traditional District Heritage Days this year. A press release about the event cited time and budget constraints as the reason for this decision, which has resulted in a significant change to the festival's format. The theme for this year's event is "Cayman Wildlife", however, it remains unclear how this will be incorporated into the festival's activities. 🦜
Culture Minister Bernie Bush, who is also a former director of the festival, expressed his gratitude towards the Pirates Week Committee and his ministry staff. He highlighted the festival's importance in uniting the community through a variety of activities and events over the past 40 years. Despite the scaled-down nature of this year's event, Bush expressed satisfaction with how the tradition has evolved and persisted over the years. The festival was originally started 46 years ago as a means to attract more visitors during the tourism off-season. 🏴☠️
