š§ļø Heavy rains and potential flooding forecasted for Cayman Islands
š Low-lying areas at risk due to weather system and king tides
A disorganised weather system in the region is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the Cayman Islands, particularly Grand Cayman, in the coming days. More than seven inches of rain is predicted, which, combined with king tides, could lead to flooding in low-lying areas. The Cayman Islands National Weather Service anticipates the heaviest rainfall to occur on Sunday evening, peaking on Monday and Tuesday. The current isolated showers are also likely to contribute to the risk of flooding. š§ļø
Chief Meteorologist Kerry Powery has advised residents to closely monitor official communication channels for updates, as the rainfall levels are subject to change depending on the development of the weather system. The high tides, influenced by seasonal lunar activity, will affect the Cayman's drainage systems, potentially exacerbating the flooding. Powery noted that while there will be accumulated flooding, it is not expected to result in flash flood-type events like those experienced in June. š
Residents are being urged to stay informed about tidal schedules and weather updates, prepare their properties by moving vehicles and valuables to higher ground, and exercise caution by avoiding flooded areas. š
