š©āš¼ Two women testify against McKeeva Bush in court
Former Speaker of the House, McKeeva Bush, is facing charges of indecent assault following allegations made by two women. The civil servants claim that Bush behaved inappropriately towards them at a cocktail party in September 2022. One of the women alleges that Bush bit and sucked on her hand, leaving a mark. Both women were working at the event and have described Bush as being drunk and slurring his words at the time of the incidents. Bush has pleaded not guilty to all four counts of indecent assault and common assault. š
During the trial, the court viewed video evidence of police interviews with the complainants. The first woman expressed her discomfort and embarrassment over the incident, which she said was witnessed by others at the event. She also mentioned that a story about the incident was posted on social media just hours after the event. The second woman, who alleges Bush bit her, described the incident as "weird" and "bizarre". Both women have expressed their hope that their decision to come forward will lead to changes in behaviour towards women. šļø
The trial continues with the second complainant expected to give evidence from the witness stand. Both women have reported the incidents to their management teams and the Cabinet secretary, and have spoken to the deputy governor as well. Despite the uncomfortable and difficult encounters, one of the women has spoken well of Bush, describing him as a brilliant mind and expressing her heartbreak over his behaviour at the event. āļø
