🏛️ Former Cayman Islands premier accused of historic rape

McKeeva Bush, the former premier of the Cayman Islands and the longest-serving member of parliament, has been accused of raping a woman in a mangrove clearing off the West Bay Road over 24 years ago. Eloise Marshall KC, the prosecutor, opened the case against Bush on Friday, detailing the woman's allegations. The woman, who was 27 at the time, claims that Bush raped her after asking her to drive him home from a bar in George Town. Despite her protests and clear lack of consent, she alleges that Bush raped her. Bush has not only denied the allegations but also claims he does not even know the woman. 🚔

According to the prosecutor, the woman did not tell anyone about the incident at the time, choosing instead to repress the memory. However, in 2021, she began experiencing flashbacks and decided to confide in her mother, two friends, and her pastor before reporting the incident to the police. When Bush was arrested, he provided a prepared statement but did not answer any questions from the police. He maintains that he has no idea why the woman would make such an allegation, describing it as persecution. The case is ongoing. ⚖️
