☔️Flood warning continues in Cayman Islands despite weather improvement

The heavy rainfall that has been soaking the Cayman Islands over the weekend is gradually moving northwest. According to the Cayman Islands National Weather Service, the weather is expected to improve by the afternoon, but not before the western side of Grand Cayman receives a few more inches of rain. Despite the discontinuation of the severe weather advisory, Hazard Management and the police are urging drivers to exercise caution due to ongoing rainy conditions and persistent flooding in many areas of Grand Cayman.🌧️

The area of abundant tropical moisture continued its northward journey over the western Caribbean on Monday, with the forecast predicting periods of showers and thunder throughout the day. However, a decrease in cloudiness and showers is expected from early evening. The RCIPS Traffic and Road Policing Unit has warned motorists to slow down, increase the distance between themselves and the vehicles in front, and use their lights. They have also urged drivers to show courtesy and caution towards other road users, especially pedestrians, cyclists, and schoolchildren, who are particularly vulnerable to passing vehicles.🚦

The weather forecast for Monday called for cloudy to overcast skies with a 60% chance of showers and some thunder. Showers may become locally heavy at times, increasing the likelihood of flooding in low-lying areas. Temperatures are expected to rise to the upper 80’s °F, with southeast winds of 15 to 20 knots and higher gusts. Seas will be rough, with wave heights of 4 to 6 feet, prompting a warning for small craft to exercise caution over the open seas. The Red Cross shelter remains open for residents.🏊‍♂️
