Over the weekend, a devastating fire ripped through a tenement complex in George Town, Cayman Islands, leaving more than 30 people homeless. The Cayman Islands Fire Service responded to the blaze at around 3pm on Sunday, arriving at the scene just two minutes later. Visible flames and smoke were billowing from the front door of the residence. The fire was swiftly brought under control and fully extinguished by 3:11pm. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway. 🚒

This is the second fire in less than a month at a rental unit complex in George Town. The previous fire, reportedly caused by generators, resulted in almost two dozen people being made homeless after the property was condemned by the planning department. The most recent complex to be affected was primarily home to expatriate workers, many of whom are now being cared for by the Red Cross. The property, which consists of 14 rental units accommodating up to 30 people, is owned by local businessman Prentice Panton. 🏚ī¸
