Two individuals are currently being treated in hospital after being hit by a 49-year-old man suspected of driving under the influence (DUI). The incident took place on the West Bay Road, just south of Lawrence Boulevard. The driver, from West Bay, was arrested after turning himself in at the West Bay Police Station shortly after the accident. 🚑

The pedestrians were struck around 9:30pm while crossing the road. The driver, however, continued his journey north along West Bay Road. The injured parties were subsequently transported to the hospital by ambulance. The driver was subjected to a breath test, which revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.194%, leading to his arrest. He remains in police custody while investigations are ongoing. 🚔

The police are urging the public to avoid drinking and driving. A spokesperson for the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) advised those who drink to make plans that do not involve driving. The police will be conducting additional roadblocks and patrols over the weekend, focusing on prosecuting individuals found driving under the influence. 🚨
