Deputy Premier and Financial Services Minister of the Cayman Islands, André Ebanks, recently spent a week in Washington DC and New York City. His mission was to engage with US politicians and media, promoting the Cayman Islands as a viable financial centre. From 13 to 21 March, Ebanks held various meetings to discuss global industry matters and update stakeholders on Cayman's business viability. The minister highlighted that the jurisdiction is no longer on any significant grey or black lists. 🌍

Ebanks also held meetings with DC-based journalists who cover international issues relevant to Cayman’s financial services framework. He provided them with a timeline of the country's financial services, demonstrating its regulatory, tax information sharing arrangements, and anti-money laundering milestones from the 1960s to the present day. This visual tool was also shared with US policymakers to underscore the Cayman Islands' commitment to global standards and its effective implementation of regulations to combat illicit crimes. πŸ“°

In addition to media meetings, the Cayman delegation met with representatives from the Department of the Treasury, Global Affairs and Tax, Citigroup and Bank of America, US Senate and House of Representatives members, the Ways and Means Committee, and the Senate Banking and Finance committees. Ebanks emphasized the Cayman Islands' cooperation with the OECD Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, which facilitates tax information exchange among its 171 member countries. 🏦
