πŸŒ€ CUC plans to keep power on during Hurricane Beryl

The Cayman Islands' utility company, CUC, has announced plans to keep electrical services running as long as possible and safe during the impending Hurricane Beryl. The company stated that if damage is detected in any specific area, the system will automatically halt service to that area until restoration efforts can commence. However, it was also made clear that these restoration efforts would not take place during adverse conditions, but only when deemed safe by the Cayman Islands Government. 🚧

Residents have been urged to familiarize themselves with generator safety requirements in preparation for the storm. The guidelines include not connecting the generator’s output to the breaker panel or household outlets, and placing the generator outdoors in a well-ventilated area away from homes and windows. The Water Authority has also advised residents to ensure they have enough water stored for both drinking and non-drinking purposes. Depending on the storm's path and severity, temporary interruptions to water service may be necessary to protect storage reserves. ⚠️

Meanwhile, the Health Services Authority (HSA) will be closing its outpatient clinics, including district health centres, urgent care, therapy services, mental health, phlebotomy, radiology, dental and eye clinics across all three islands, at noon on Wednesday. The pharmacies are due to close at 3:00pm tomorrow. All elective surgeries have also been cancelled, and patients will be contacted directly to reschedule appointments. The HSA will provide updates regarding the resumption of all services pending an all-clear from Hazard Management Cayman Islands following the storm. πŸ₯
