š Three arrested and two charged in joint operation by police and prison security
Over the Christmas period, security at HMP Northward intercepted several attempts to smuggle drugs into the prison, resulting in the arrest of three individuals. The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) also reported that two more people have been formally charged for drug smuggling offences from earlier operations. The police have been working in close collaboration with the prison and the Department of Public Safety and Communications (DPSC) to curb the smuggling of contraband into the prison. The intercepted drug packages were discovered between December 18 and 26. šØ
Further investigations into other smuggling incidents are currently being conducted by the RCIPS. The Prison Director, Daniel Greaves, warned that anyone caught smuggling drugs or contraband into the facility could face a maximum fine of $15,000 and up to three years in jail. Sean Vasquez, the DPSC Director, affirmed his department's commitment to continuous monitoring and technological interventions, maintaining a strong partnership between the two agencies to deter future smuggling attempts. šļø
