🚫 Child rapist's identity protected by court order

A 34-year-old man from George Town, who was recently sentenced to thirteen and a half years in prison for raping an 11-year-old girl twice in 2022, has had his identity protected by the court. The man is facing further similar charges, and the court has chosen to conceal his identity to prevent potential jury prejudice in his upcoming trial. The offender had masqueraded as a 14-year-old boy on social media to groom his victim, eventually resorting to threats to coerce her into meeting him.🔒

The man's actions were described as "callous" by Justice Cheryll Richards, who presided over the case. The sentence was based on the details of the offence and the man's circumstances. After serving his jail term, the man will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order, barring him from contacting the victim or any other underage girls, except his own child. He will also be prohibited from working with girls under 16 and will be required to inform the police of his physical address and all associated social media profiles for up to a decade after his release.👮‍♂️
