Premier Juliana O’Connor-Connolly of the Cayman Islands led a delegation last week to deliver aid to islands affected by Hurricane Beryl. The team brought approximately 17,500lbs of aid cargo, valued at $100,000, to Grenada and St Vincent and the Grenadines, along with cheques totalling $700,000. The delegation also visited Jamaica with a donation of $200,000. The aid cargo included generators, chainsaws, shovels, rakes, tarpaulins, air mattresses, toiletries, non-perishable food items, medical supplies, and educational books.πŸ“¦

In Grenada, the Cayman Islands gave $200,000 to Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, before moving on to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves received $500,000 in cash and $50,000 worth of supplies. A further $200,000 was taken to Jamaica. The Cayman Islands will also be providing an additional $200,000 for Barbados. O’Connor-Connolly highlighted the shared humanity and vulnerability to natural disasters, urging continued vigilance during the hurricane season.πŸŒ€

Local disaster management authorities worked with Hazard Management Cayman Islands and the Cayman Airways crew to safely offload the cargo. The aid will be used to rebuild infrastructure and provide medical supplies and goods for the most vulnerable populations. The Cayman Islands is also sending a team of linesmen to help restore electricity in Jamaican communities. O’Connor-Connolly expressed her joy in being able to extend kindness to these nations, emphasizing the strength of the region when united.⚑
