👨‍⚖️ Cayman Islands Opposition Leader calls for action over trial abuse

Opposition Leader Roy McTaggart has urged for action to be taken against the "deliberate and disquieting abuse of process" by the crown in the case against McKeeva Bush. Bush had been charged with the indecent assault of two female civil servants, but was discharged due to the severity of the abuse. McTaggart stated that Governor Jane Owen and the Judicial and Legal Services Commission cannot ignore the situation. 🏛️

McTaggart highlighted that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service's determination to build a case against Bush threatened the integrity of the justice system. Bush was accused of assaulting the women at a cocktail reception during the Caribbean Tourism Association conference in September 2022, a claim he denied. McTaggart is now waiting for an announcement on what action will be taken in response to the judge's findings. 🚨

So far, there has been no comment from the Judicial and Legal Services Commission. The governor issued a brief statement saying that she is waiting for the judge’s full written ruling on his decision to stay the case before commenting on the situation.
