šŸŒ€ Cayman Islands narrowly avoids potential tropical cyclone

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has been closely monitoring potential Tropical Cyclone 22, which passed just over 200 miles south of Grand Cayman on Friday morning. The system was expected to pass approximately 150 miles southeast of Cayman Brac in the afternoon. Despite the close proximity, no warnings or watches were issued for the Cayman Islands as the system had not developed into a storm by 3 pm. šŸŒ§ļø

The system brought heavy rainfall as it passed over Jamaica and was located around 50 miles southwest of Montego Bay and about 265 miles southwest of Guantanamo, Cuba, with maximum sustained winds of 35mph. Moving at a speed of 16mph, the NHC predicted additional acceleration toward the northeast over the weekend. Although some slight strengthening was possible over the next couple of days, the chances of the system developing into a tropical cyclone seemed to be decreasing. The Cayman Islands National Weather Service stated that it would continue to monitor the developments of this system and any potential impacts on the Cayman Islands. šŸŒ“
