šŸŒ€ Cayman Islands marks 20th anniversary of Hurricane Ivan

The Cayman Islands is commemorating 20 years since the destructive passage of Hurricane Ivan, a Category 4 storm that wreaked havoc on Grand Cayman in September 2004. The hurricane, which resulted in damages amounting to US$3 billion, is remembered as one of the most expensive natural disasters in history and a defining moment for many Caymanians. The government is promoting a theme of "Past. Present. Grateful. Resilient" to mark the anniversary. šŸŒŖļø

In remembrance of the event, the government has launched an official Hurricane Ivan webpage and a documentary featuring first-hand accounts and highlighting the remarkable journey to recovery and the resilience of the Cayman people. The documentary will be broadcast on CIGTV and is also available on YouTube. Additionally, the award-winning short film "Ivan" by Caymanian filmmaker Jazz Pitcairn will premiere at Camana Bay Cinemas. šŸŽ„

As part of the anniversary campaign, the National Emergency Notification System (NENS) App was activated to encourage residents to download the app and raise awareness about the impact of storms and the development of crisis management operations. The campaign also serves as a tribute to those who suffered, remembers the two community members who lost their lives, and celebrates the spirit of resilience that emerged in the aftermath of the hurricane. šŸ“±
