šŸ“” Cayman Islands leading the Caribbean in 5G network availability

The Cayman Islands has been recognized as a regional leader in wireless broadband connectivity at the Caribbean Spectrum Management Conference held earlier this year in Jamaica. Both Flow and Digicel, two major operators in the Cayman Islands, launched 5G services in June. Richard Marsden, Senior Managing Director at NERA Economic Consulting, highlighted the importance of making spectrum bandwidth available to operators and praised the Cayman Islands for already releasing the necessary spectrum for mobile deployment. šŸ“¶

According to the Utility Regulation and Competition Office (OfReg), this means that mobile operators in the Cayman Islands have the necessary 'raw material' to build state-of-the-art connectivity solutions. OfReg Acting CEO, Sonji Myles, emphasized the importance of careful planning and management of available radio spectrum for the successful implementation of a new cellular technology network. He also mentioned that OfReg's role is to allocate bandwidth effectively to ensure operators' networks have the capacity to provide innovative opportunities that 5G presents. šŸŒ

Myles further stated that the Cayman Islands is one of the first countries in the region to bring 5G network services online for consumers and businesses. He assured that necessary planning and preparation have been done to ensure the 5G network is fit for purpose. OfReg is also working to monitor and evaluate safe operation, 5G connectivity performance, and licensees' compliance with their obligations under the terms of their licenses. šŸ“±
