⚽ Cayman Islands forfeits World Cup qualifier against Cuba

The Cayman Islands Men's National Football Team had to forfeit their World Cup qualifier match against Cuba due to US travel restrictions. The team, fresh off their first-ever World Cup qualifying win against Antigua and Barbuda, made the decision to protect their players, many of whom are studying or training in the United States. The US routinely cancels ESTA visa waivers for anyone who has travelled to Cuba, which could have jeopardized the players' ability to continue their education or training in the US. 🌎

The team's historic win was secured at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex, with 18-year-old Joshwa Campbell scoring the winning goal. Despite efforts to move the game to another location, the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) could not assist as Cuba is entitled to a home match. The next CONCACAF qualifiers are scheduled for June, where the Cayman Islands will face Bermuda and Honduras. ⚽
