šŸ—³ļø Cayman Islands at a crossroads for 2025 general election

Former tourism minister, Charles Clifford, has voiced his concerns about the upcoming 2025 general election in the Cayman Islands. In an op-ed, he stressed the importance of this election, not because of specific issues like post-disaster recovery, but due to broader, complex reasons. According to Clifford, the Cayman Islands are at a crossroads and the decisions made in this election could significantly impact the country's future. He warned against extreme political ideologies and irrational policies, advocating instead for a more centrist approach to fiscal, social, environmental, development, and economic policies. šŸ›ļø

Clifford expressed his worry about the potential for institutionalised corruption and social unrest if the election results are not favourable. He also noted the current disillusionment among the electorate and feared a low voter turnout unless citizens see a real opportunity for change. He urged other Caymanians to get involved in the political process to help steer the country in the right direction. Clifford emphasised that all hands are needed on deck to ensure a safe and successful future for the Cayman Islands. šŸ™

Although Clifford has no plans to run in the upcoming elections, he committed to volunteering and offering his experience to help the country. He also encouraged others who can make a difference to consider running for office. Clifford served as the director of Customs and Border Control and was a part of the PPM administration as tourism minister between 2005 and 2009. šŸ¢
