💼 Cabinet ministers earned an average of $305K in 2022

The office of the auditor general has disclosed that members of the Cabinet earned an average of $305,000 each in 2022, totaling CI$3.3 million. This information is part of a new public interest report aimed at improving transparency regarding the remuneration of key management personnel in the public service. Other senior public sector employees also received high salaries, with members of parliament earning an average of $285,000 per year and members of the judiciary collecting an average of $302,000 each, totaling $3.3 million. Chief officers earned a total of $4.3 million, averaging $204,000 each. 📑

The report also revealed that those in key management positions, grade E and above, earned a total of $35.4 million, averaging $136,000 per year. Auditor General Sue Winspear stated that this report was prepared to provide independent information and improve transparency, as the government has not been reporting these salaries in the consolidated accounts. The report also indicated that the Civil Service employed 4,566 people at the end of 2022, paying them a total of about $360.4 million in remuneration, or $79,000 on average. There were 293 key management personnel across the Government and the Civil Service in 2022, earning a total of $45 million, averaging $154,000 each. 💰

The report does not make any recommendations or judgments about the amounts spent on politicians. Winspear emphasized that the goal of the report was to provide transparency and allow the public to see for themselves how much public money is spent on pay for those in senior public office. 🏛️
