🏠 Bonaventure Boys Home reopens after community-supported revamp

The Bonaventure Boys Home in West Bay, run by the CAYS Foundation, has reopened after a comprehensive renovation, which included making the facility wheelchair-accessible. The Cayman Islands Government contributed $100,000 to the project from the Ministry of Social Development’s 2023 budget savings. The non-profit organisation was able to generate additional support, both financial and in-kind, from the community and the private sector. Officials emphasized the importance of the donations of time, money, and supplies in making the revamp possible. 🏑

Social Development Minister AndrΓ© Ebanks applauded the CAYS board’s new long-term vision to overcome current challenges and provide a fresh outlook for the future. The renovated multipurpose residential unit is part of the initial phase of this vision. Ebanks expressed his satisfaction that the project serves as an example of successful collaboration between the government and private sector for a worthy social cause. The CAYS Foundation expressed gratitude towards all the partners who contributed their time, expertise, and materials towards the renovation. The project has set a precedent for future collaborations, as CAYS plans to upgrade the rest of its facilities. 🀝

The CAYS Foundation operates the Frances Bodden Children’s Home and Phoenix House, in addition to Bonaventure. These facilities provide 24-hour residential care to young people under court order due to care and protection needs or offending behaviour. The foundation encourages anyone interested in contributing to future projects to get in touch. For more information about the CAYS Foundation, follow @caysfoundation on Instagram. πŸ‘¦πŸ‘§
